Speeding concerns prompt traffic camera installation on madrid's a-4
Valdemoro residents are breathing a collective sigh of relief after authorities confirmed the installation of a speed radar on a stretch of the A-4 highway following a surge in accidents. The decision, spurred by local consumer advocacy group ACUSVAL, addresses long-standing concerns about speeding and dangerous road conditions.

Speeding radar to curb accidents on a-4
The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) will install the speed monitoring device between kilometers 26 and 30 of the A-4, a section notorious for sharp curves and steep banking. ACUSVAL had been pushing for the radar after noticing a significant increase in accidents in recent years, attributing it to drivers exceeding the speed limit. The organization formally requested the installation with the DGT, and the agency has now responded positively.
This isn't an isolated incident. The DGT plans to deploy four new speed radars across the Madrid region before the year's end. These additions complement the existing network of 33 speed cameras nationwide. Two additional radars will be installed on the M-501, and two fixed ones on the M-601 and M-100, further bolstering traffic safety measures.
While the exact location of the radar on the A-4 remains undisclosed, the DGT confirmed the area is a hotspot for accidents. Residents have long complained about the hazardous road layout, with the combination of sharp turns and a pronounced banking contributing to the increased risk. The introduction of the radar is expected to deter speeding and ultimately reduce the number of accidents in this high-traffic area.
The installation comes with a €200 fine for drivers caught exceeding the speed limit, even if equipped with a V16 device, provided they neglect to maintain one of the five mandatory devices.
This move reflects a broader strategy by the DGT to enhance road safety through technological interventions. With the holiday season approaching, these measures are particularly timely.
The DGT's commitment to deploying more speed radars signals a proactive approach to tackling speeding and improving overall road safety. The installation on the A-4 is a tangible response to community concerns and a step towards safer roads for all.
