Formula e evo sessions: crash shakes content creator event

Formula e evo sessions: a high-risk spectacle

Formula E continues its push for growth, and one of its more daring initiatives is the "Evo Sessions." This event puts content creators behind the wheel of Formula E cars, aiming to generate excitement and showcase the sport. However, the latest edition in Saudi Arabia proved to be another eventful one, marked by a significant crash involving Izzy Hammond, daughter of Top Gear's Richard Hammond.

The second annual Evo Sessions event saw 12 influencers competing in Formula E cars. While 'The Burnt Chip' secured the victory representing Jaguar, the highlight – and concern – of the event was a high-speed crash involving Izzy Hammond. The incident occurred during qualifying laps as she was attempting to overtake a rival.

A dangerous undertaking?

A dangerous undertaking?

The concept of allowing inexperienced drivers to operate these high-performance vehicles is inherently risky. Formula E cars boast acceleration figures exceeding those of Formula 1, making them incredibly powerful. Experienced drivers like Pepe Martí, a Spanish Formula E driver, are crucial for maintaining safety during the season.

Izzy Hammond, while completing a qualifying lap, reportedly lost control of her car while braking. She collided with the wall at high speed, with impact forces estimated at around 25G. The Lola Yamaha ABT car sustained significant damage. Thankfully, Hammond communicated that she was unharmed after the incident.

Previous incidents raise safety concerns

This wasn't the first time a crash had marred the Evo Sessions. Last year's event in Miami saw MrBeast, the world's most popular YouTuber, crash his Cupra. Another incident saw JUCA crash his car during the final chicane. These incidents underscore the dangers associated with allowing individuals with limited experience to drive these potent vehicles.

Organizers remain committed

Despite the incidents, Formula E organizers have indicated their intention to continue the Evo Sessions. The event aims to provide entertainment and promote the sport. However, the safety implications of allowing non-professional drivers to operate these cars will undoubtedly continue to be scrutinized.
