After a brief absence, Toyota has revived the legendary Land Cruiser Serie 70 in Australia, bringing it back to life with a significant powertrain update. The new edition arrives with a 2.8-liter turbocharged diesel engine, replacing the previous V8 4.5-liter turbodiesel.

Boasting 204 horsepower between 3,000 and 3,400 rpm and 500 Nm of torque from 1,600 to 2,800 rpm, the 4-cylinder 2.8-liter motor shares its DNA with the Hilux. This potent diesel mill propels the updated Land Cruiser Serie 70 forward, promising improved performance and fuel efficiency.

Interestingly, Toyota has opted to reintroduce the Serie 70 with a six-speed automatic transmission only, leaving the five-speed manual option still pending. As of now, the 78 Series Troop Carrier variant sees its fuel tank capacity reduced to 130 liters, aligning with the rest of the 70 Series lineup.

Toyota Australia's Vice President of Sales, Marketing, and Operations, John Pappas, expressed delight at re-opening orders for the Land Cruiser Serie 70 range, now available with the six-speed auto transmission. The manual option, meanwhile, remains temporarily unavailable.

As demand for the rugged off-roader surges, Toyota's sales in Australia continue to soar, with June seeing a 19% increase in new vehicle deliveries, totaling 19,124 units. The Hilux and RAV4 led the charge, highlighting Toyota's commitment to meeting diverse customer needs with its multi-energy strategy.
