Title: Skoda Slavia: The Affordable Sedan Exclusive to India

The global automotive market is vast, yet there are still cars that remain exclusive to specific regions. Sometimes, exclusivity makes sense, but other times it's hard not to wonder why certain models wouldn't thrive elsewhere. The Skoda Slavia is a perfect example of this. You may have never heard of it, as it's not sold in Spain or even Europe, but it's one of the Czech brand's models that excels in India, where it's part of the "made in India, for India" family. Launched five years ago as an affordable, entry-level sedan, its focus hasn't changed in its recent update. With these diesel engines, you can travel from Madrid to Barcelona for under €50.

It's difficult not to see the Slavia sharing much with the Skoda Octavia or Superb, as they all share a design philosophy. However, if it were sold in our country, it would be a model between the two in terms of size. With a length of 4,541 mm, width of 1,752 mm, and height of 1,487 mm, plus a 2,651 mm wheelbase, it also boasts a 521-liter boot space. In general, it remains very similar to the original, with the only apparent updates being a redesigned front grille, a new, slightly more sporty front bumper, new LED headlights, additional wheel designs, and restructured rear lights that now integrate sequential turn indicators.

The Monte Carlo trim gets an even more striking appearance thanks to its bi-tone body, exterior details in black, and specific emblems for the variant. Inside, the changes are more intriguing. For starters, it features a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster combined with a 10.1-inch infotainment system, allowing for wireless smartphone integration with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The system also includes an AI-based assistant developed in collaboration with Google Cloud, which, amusingly, has been "developed to recognize Indian English accents." This allows voice control of functions like the climate control or audio system. New color combinations are also introduced, although specifics are not provided, as well as a massage function for rear seats, a first in the Slavia's segment; a 360-degree perimeter view system; and the Park Pilot parking assistant with front sensors. Mechanically, the Slavia sticks to a gasoline-only lineup, with the entry-level 1.0 TSI engine paired with a six-speed manual transmission, along with other options.
