Porsche has created a one-of-a-kind 911 GT2 RS, dubbed the Flachbau, in homage to the legendary 935/78 Le Mans racing car. This bespoke project, developed in collaboration with Manthey, took nearly three years to complete and involved a multidisciplinary team of experts from Sonderwunsch, Style Porsche, and Porsche's Weissach, Motorsport, and Manthey departments.
The Flachbau's design was led by Grant Larson, now retired, who also reimagined the modern Porsche 935 for the brand's 70th anniversary in 2018. The front air intakes are lower and combined with a stepped LED light arrangement. The body is painted in Grand Prix White, a traditional Porsche color introduced on the 911 in 1974, specifically developed for this car referencing a historic Porsche collection piece. The white is contrasted with matte black and visible carbon fiber elements.
The hood and roof stripes are inverted compared to the standard GT2 RS, while the central and U-shaped elements are made of visible carbon fiber, a nod to the 935/78's Martini Racing livery. The rear wheels feature aerodynamic rims painted in Grand Prix White, with black brake calipers.
New front wheel arches incorporate air outlets in the form of fins, allowing air to escape and reducing pressure inside. This necessitated modifications to the fuel tank lid and mechanism beneath. The entire front bumper was redesigned, incorporating small Manthey-designed elements in black. The front splitter, Manthey kit understructure, and rear diffuser complete the aerodynamic work, while the carbon fiber rear spoilers contribute to reducing drag.
A new rear spoiler with S-shaped supports, inspired by the 911 GT3 R, stands out in the rear. The result is a stunning reinterpretation of the iconic Flachbau silhouette, now homologated for road use. This unique creation is a testament to Porsche's ability to meet increasingly demanding customer expectations with bespoke, high-performancevehicles.
