Tesla Suffers Sharp Sales Decline in August, Despite Year-to-Date Growth

Tesla experienced a significant drop in August sales, plummeting 78.8% compared to the same month last year. Despite this decline, the company’s overall sales year-to-date have increased by 6.3%.

August Sales Figures

Total new car registrations in August reached 68,544, a 11.8% increase from August 2025. The market for electrified vehicles accounted for over a quarter of total sales, driven by strong demand for electric models.

Tesla Model 3 and Y Performance

Tesla sold only 304 units in August, with 170 Model 3s and 134 Model Ys. However, the Model Y remained the best-selling electric SUV in Spain, with 6,005 units registered in 2026, representing a 9.28% increase year-over-year.

Year-to-Date Totals

As of the end of August, 818,201 new passenger cars were registered, a 6.3% rise compared to 2025. Electric vehicle sales totaled 18,967 units in August, a 27% increase, with a combined market share of 27.7%. Year-to-date electric vehicle sales reached 185,340 units, up 34.1% from 2025, accounting for 22.6% of the total market.
