Spain's electric car push: new incentives and auto+ plan unveiled
Boosting electric vehicle sales in spain
Spain is actively working to accelerate
the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs), and automakers are urging the government to implement purchase incentives mirroring those seen in other European nations. The previous MOVES III program has concluded, and a significant €4.5 billion aid package, the Programa Auto, has finally been approved. This signals a renewed commitment to electrifying Spain's Automotive landscape.
Introducing the auto+ plan: a comprehensive strategy
In December 2025, the government, in collaboration with Anfac (Spanish Association of Automotive Industry Manufacturers) and other industry players, presented Auto+, a comprehensive strategy designed to boost the electrification of the Spanish vehicle fleet. This plan encompasses 25 measures divided into three key areas: Plan Moves Corredores (improving charging infrastructure), PERTE (general industry support), and the Plan Auto+ itself, which directly impacts potential EV buyers.

Significant financial incentives on the horizon
The industry has been eagerly awaiting the approval of financial aid, which are now available. The Auto+ initiative is backed by a substantial €1.28 billion annual budget, with plans to extend it through 2030, potentially distributing around €6 billion over five years. While the program hasn’t yet been officially published in the BOE (Official State Gazette), details are gradually emerging to address frequently asked questions.
Up to €4,500 in direct purchase aid
Sources within the sector indicate that the financial aid could reach a maximum of €4,500 per vehicle. Unlike the previous Moves program, Auto+ aims to prioritize the purchase of European-made electric vehicles, aligning with European Commission guidelines. While Chinese EVs aren't excluded, they are expected to receive a reduced level of support, the exact amount of which remains undisclosed.
Retroactive application & centralized management
Both Anfac and Faconauto (Spanish Automotive Industry Federation) confirm that the program will be applied retroactively from January 1st, despite not yet being fully available. A key change is the centralized management by the central government, moving away from the previous system where aid distribution was handled by regional authorities (Autonomous Communities). This ensures a consistent and unified approach to budget allocation.
Direct aid at the dealership
Another significant benefit for consumers is the direct application of aid at the dealership. The €4,500 discount will be applied directly to the vehicle’s price at the point of purchase. This eliminates the need for buyers to front the cost and wait months or even years for reimbursement, a common issue with the previous Moves program. This streamlined process is expected to significantly improve the buying experience and encourage EV adoption.
