Spain bolsters aid for truckers as fuel costs soar

Spain has unveiled a raft of measures to support truckers reeling from the impact of soaring fuel prices, triggered by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Emergency aid for gnc and gnl vehicles

Under the new decree, vehicles with Gross Combined Weight (GNC) and Gas Natural Liquefied (GNL) fuel will be eligible for a maximum aid of 1,800 euros. The assistance will cover both heavy goods vehicles with a minimum Gross Vehicle Weight of 7.5 tonnes and GNC/GNL-fueled taxis and certain categories of buses.

The move aims to mitigate the crippling effect of fuel price hikes on the logistics sector, which has seen the cost of gasoline and diesel skyrocket in recent weeks.

Price transparency for trucking services

The decree also introduces stricter regulations around pricing for trucking services. Transport companies will now be required to reflect any changes in fuel costs between contract signing and service execution in the final bill. This applies to both one-off and continuous contracts.

The measure takes cues from recent adjustments to diesel prices, which had previously been standardized. The aim is to ensure greater transparency and fairness for customers, who can now expect a more accurate reflection of the true cost of trucking services.

With fuel prices showing no signs of abating, the Spanish government's decisive action is a welcome respite for the beleaguered trucking industry, which plays a vital role in maintaining the country's economic vitality.
