Opel Introduces New 2.2 Turbodiesel Engine for Vivaro Flatbed
Opel has updated its Vivaro flatbed model with a new 2.2-liter turbodiesel engine, focusing on enhanced torque for heavy-duty work. The engine delivers 150 horsepower and 370 Newton-meters of torque, a slight improvement over the previous 2.0-liter diesel’s 145 horsepower and 340 Newton-meters.
Focus on Torque for Commercial Applications
While the power increase is modest, the significant improvement in torque – 370 Nm compared to 340 Nm – is crucial for a vehicle designed to handle substantial loads and require strong pulling power at low speeds. The new engine is paired with a six-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive.

Stellantis Plans Diesel-to-Electric Conversions
Stellantis is planning to convert used diesel vans into electric vehicles for under €20,000. Opel continues to offer the Vivaro ‘flatbed’ as an all-electric model, equipped with a 100 kW (136 hp) electric motor and two battery options: 42 kWh and 69 kWh.

Coexistence of Diesel and Electric
Opel highlights the growing trend of coexisting diesel and electric technologies in the commercial vehicle market, recognizing that electric vehicles are well-suited for urban routes and low-emission zones, while diesel remains a practical choice for longer journeys and demanding operational needs.
