Koenigsegg powers italian hypercar with exclusive v8 engine
Italian automaker Kimera Automobili has partnered with Koenigsegg to deliver a ferocious 1,000 horsepower engine, sourced directly from the Swedish manufacturer, for its flagship, the Kimera K39. This isn’t just a bolt-on; it’s a meticulously engineered derivative of Koenigsegg’s renowned 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 – a powerplant previously unseen in a production car.
A hot-v revolution
The K39’s engine represents a significant departure from Koenigsegg’s standard offerings. It’s a bespoke evolution of the celebrated V8, meticulously crafted in collaboration between Kimera and Koenigsegg engineers. Instead of the traditional flat-plane crank configuration, the K39 utilizes a ‘hot-V’ design – placing both turbos nestled within the ‘V’ of the cylinder block. This ingenious placement drastically reduces exhaust pipe lengths, accelerating turbo response and dramatically improving throttle response.

Performance figures
Expect a staggering 1,000 horsepower at 7,350 rpm, accompanied by a monstrous 1,200 Nm of torque peaking at 5,500 rpm. But Koenigsegg wasn’t solely focused on maximum power; they prioritized a linear power delivery and a thrilling, high-revving character. The compact, lightweight turbos contribute significantly to this refined driving experience.

A manual transmission and limited production
Kimera Automobili has opted for a seven-speed manual transmission, a deliberate choice to enhance driver engagement – a refreshing contrast to the prevalent dual-clutch automatics found in many hypercars. The engine, housed in a central rear longitudinal position within a lightweight carbon fiber monocoque chassis, delivers a breathtaking power-to-weight ratio of approximately 900 horsepower per ton. Production is limited to just 50 to 100 units, with a further 10 examples of the K39 Pikes Peak variant – designed for extreme altitude competition – also planned. This exclusive hypercar promises an unparalleled analog driving experience, showcasing the innovative engineering prowess of both Koenigsegg and Kimera.
