Kia ev2: affordable electric on the horizon – a challenger emerges
Kia is poised to shake up the budget electric vehicle market with the upcoming EV2, slated for a 2026 launch. The Korean automaker aims to replicate the success of its EV3 sibling, but in a more accessible segment facing fierce competition from rivals like Renault and emerging Chinese brands.
Kia ev2: compact dimensions, spacious interior
The EV2 arrives as Kia's smallest electric offering, measuring 4.06 meters long, 1.80 meters wide, and 1.57 meters tall, with a wheelbase of 2.56 meters. Kia’s 'Opposites United' design language lends the EV2 a solid presence despite its size, featuring distinctive vertical LED headlights and a clean, grille-less front fascia. Polygon-shaped wheel arches and integrated taillights contribute to a modern, uncluttered rear.
Surprisingly, the EV2 boasts ample interior space. Rear legroom measures 958mm, with headroom ranging from 968mm to 973mm depending on seating position. Five-seat and four-seat configurations will be available, and the generous trunk offers 362 liters with five occupants, expanding to 403 liters with the rear seats folded.

Range, charging, and powertrain details remain under wraps
Powered by Hyundai-Kia’s E-GMP platform with a 400V architecture, the EV2 will initially offer two battery options: a 42.2 kWh battery with a WLTP range of 317 kilometers, and a 61.0 kWh battery extending the range to 448 kilometers. While Kia hasn’t revealed the motor’s power output, speculation suggests two variants – a lower-powered entry-level option and a more potent version for the larger battery. Charging speeds are expected to be brisk, with a 30-minute time to charge from 10% to 80% using DC fast charging. AC charging will support up to 11 kW or 22 kW.
Advanced features like Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) will allow the EV2 to power external devices or even feed energy back into the grid.

Production and pricing: a race to 2026
Production of the Kia EV2 has already commenced at the company's Žilina, Slovakia plant, with deliveries scheduled for the first half of 2026. Kia has yet to announce pricing, but the EV2 is targeting a competitive price point of around €25,000, positioning it as an accessible option in the burgeoning electric vehicle market. Kia aims to sell 65,000 vehicles and improve dealership profitability by 2026. The EV2 isn't just another electric car; it's Kia’s calculated bet on capturing a significant share of the rapidly expanding affordable EV segment.
