Government unveils auto+ scheme: streamlined ev incentives finally hit the road
The government has finally ratified the Auto+ plan, a revamped electric vehicle incentive program designed to shake off the bureaucratic bottlenecks that plagued its predecessor, MOVE S III. This marks a significant step forward for EV adoption, but how do drivers actually access these much-needed benefits?
Simplified process promises faster payments
Initially funded with a €400 million budget, Auto+ aims to drastically reduce processing times and eliminate the frustrating delays that previously plagued the subsidy system. Previously, consumers faced a lengthy and cumbersome process – submitting applications directly to regional authorities, gathering extensive documentation, and waiting, often for months, even exceeding a year, to receive their funds.

Dealer-led management – a game changer
The new approach shifts much of the administrative burden to dealerships, acting as authorized representatives for buyers. Once a purchase is finalized, the customer simply grants the dealership permission to handle the application process. The dealership will then compile the necessary documentation, submit it electronically via the Ministry of Industry's dedicated platform, and track the progress of the application – a marked improvement over the decentralized system.

Retroactive eligibility – a boost for early adopters
Adding another layer of accessibility, Auto+ boasts retroactive eligibility, extending benefits to vehicles registered from January 1, 2026. This crucial provision ensures that those who have already invested in electric vehicles are not left behind, provided they meet the program's requirements and submit their documentation when the official application period opens. A proactive move designed to encourage wider EV uptake.

Financial details & key considerations
The scheme offers varying levels of support, with 100% electric vehicles receiving a direct 50% subsidy, while plug-in hybrid and extended-range EVs receive a 25% contribution. Pricing also plays a role: vehicles costing up to €35,000 before tax receive an additional 25%, while those between €35,000 and €45,000 are eligible for a 15% boost. Furthermore, vehicles manufactured or assembled within the European Union benefit from an additional 15% subsidy, with a further 10% for batteries produced in the EU. A pragmatic approach designed to incentivize domestic production.

Google maps gets an unexpected upgrade
Meanwhile, Android Auto users are experiencing a subtle but significant change: Google Maps Navigation is gradually integrating immersive features. This represents a quiet, yet impactful, enhancement to the user experience within the connected car environment.

Government confidence & future outlook
“We are confident that this system will significantly reduce processing times compared to the previous model and provide greater security for both buyers and distributors,” stated Pedro Sánchez, President of the Spanish Government. The administration anticipates that the streamlined process will expedite the rollout of electric vehicles across the country, fostering a greener and more technologically advanced automotive landscape. The key now is swift implementation and clear communication to unlock the full potential of Auto+.”
