Defender reinventado: un millón de euros transforman un ícono en una bestia off-road
A bespoke Land Rover Defender, dubbed ‘Rocco’, has emerged from the workshops of Helderburg, boasting a staggering €400,000 price tag. This isn't a simple restoration; it’s a complete reimagining of a legendary vehicle for a Nashville-based father and son.
Beyond restoration: engineering a legacy
Helderburg isn't interested in merely preserving the Defender’s classic appeal. Instead, they’ve approached this project as a sophisticated design and engineering exercise, meticulously crafting a vehicle that elevates the original’s capabilities while retaining its rugged DNA. Forget superficial upgrades - this Defender has undergone a radical transformation from the ground up.
The team, led by Paul Potratz, has invested over 3,000 hours, utilizing custom-developed components to dramatically enhance the vehicle’s handling and off-road prowess. They’ve stubbornly resisted the urge to simply supercharge the original engine, opting instead to meticulously maintain the 5-cylinder turbodiesel powerplant and chassis – a testament to their belief in the Defender's inherent strength.

Details that define distinction
While the Defender retains its instantly recognizable silhouette, subtle yet significant changes immediately catch the eye. LED lighting replaces the original headlights, a striking rectangular grille dominates the front end, and the once-familiar body panels have been replaced with robust, reinforced metal guards. The wheels are significantly wider, accommodating massive off-road tires, and bespoke aluminum steps provide enhanced access.
Inside, the cabin has been completely overhauled. Hand-stitched Scottish-tanned leather seats – a combination of black and brown – offer a luxurious touch, complemented by a redesigned dashboard and a modern multimedia screen. However, Potratz insists the focus remains firmly on the driving experience, stating, “We’re not a simple assembly or restoration shop. We treat each vehicle as a unique architectural masterpiece.”
The suspension has been completely reworked, boosting ground clearance and dramatically improving its off-road capabilities. A bespoke stainless steel exhaust system adds a refined growl to the engine’s soundtrack. This Defender remains a manual transmission, five-speed, four-wheel-drive machine, a deliberate choice by Helderburg to cater to a specific clientele.

A price reflecting precision
The €400,000 price tag reflects the painstaking level of detail and bespoke fabrication involved. Helderburg prioritizes artisanal craftsmanship and utilizes premium components, ensuring a vehicle of unparalleled quality and performance. Potratz concluded, “Our clients come to us because they want something that inspires them to explore beyond the beaten path.”
