Chinese EV Charging Tech Races to 1.5MW, Addressing Range Anxiety
Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers BYD and Geely are leading a rapid advancement in ultra-fast charging technology, aiming to overcome range anxiety and boost EV sales. The competition is shifting from kilowatts (kW) to megavats (MW), with new systems promising full charges in under 10 minutes.
BYD’s Flash Charging Reaches 1.5MW
BYD’s Flash Charging, a second-generation system utilizing its Blade Battery, can charge a vehicle from 10% to 70% in just 5 minutes and 10% to 97% in 9 minutes. Remarkably, it maintains this speed even at temperatures as low as -30°C, boosting a Blade Battery 2.0 from 20% to 97% in 12 minutes.

Geely’s Smart Charging and Extended Range
Geely’s Smart Charging system, coupled with its new Blade Battery, boasts a 97% charge in under 9 minutes for vehicles like the Lynk & Co 01 and Zeekr 001. The battery also offers increased energy density, enabling ranges exceeding 1,000 kilometers (CLTC cycle).

Oil Giant Embraces BYD’s 1.5MW Stations
Major oil companies are transitioning their gas stations to BYD’s 1.5MW rapid charging stations, capable of charging an EV from 10% to 97% in just nine minutes. This rapid development is expected to significantly increase EV adoption by eliminating charging time concerns.
