Bugatti tourbillon's analog instrument cluster: a masterpiece of convergence

A new era of automotive design

In a bold move against the tide of digital instrument clusters, Bugatti has unveiled the Tourbillon, a hypercar that boasts an entirely analog dashboard. This striking departure from the norm is the result of a partnership between Bugatti and Swiss watchmaker Concept, creating a truly unique piece of Automotive art.

A legacy of mechanical precision

The Tourbillon's name is a nod to the historic invention that revolutionized timekeeping in 1801. This mechanical marvel, designed to counteract the effects of gravity on accuracy, is still revered as the pinnacle of watchmaking today. By applying this ethos to the world of automobiles, Bugatti has created a car that embodies timeless mechanical perfection.

A complex convergence of skills

A complex convergence of skills

The analog instrument cluster of the Tourbillon is a masterpiece that required the convergence of high-watchmaking techniques with the demands of Automotive engineering. With over 650 individual components, each painstakingly crafted by hand, this cluster is a testament to the art of traditional watchmaking.

The challenges in integrating these components with the electronic systems of the car were immense. The team at Concept had to adapt their methods to accommodate the vastly different scales of watchmaking and Automotive parts. Traditional watchmaking tools proved inadequate, necessitating the development of entirely new equipment custom-designed for this project.

Exquisite details and personalization

The Tourbillon's instrument cluster offers a level of customization previously unseen in Automotive design. Clients can choose from a range of luxurious finishes, including Clous de Paris, engine-turned patterns, and aventurine – all presented as physical samples for hands-on evaluation. Ruby bearings serve a functional purpose, reducing friction in the mechanical movements. Each component, from the zirconium crystal to the skeletonized structures and manually crafted hands, is designed to meet the exacting standards of both Bugatti and Concept.

A new standard in automotive design

The Tourbillon's analog instrument cluster sets a new benchmark for Automotive design, combining mechanical precision with the artistry of high-watchmaking. This convergence of skills opens up new possibilities for personalization, allowing clients to specify finishes, materials, and details in ways previously unimaginable. The result is a dashboard that is at once a functional component of the car and a work of art in its own right.
