Bmw surpasses expectations with sales data release & m division dominance
BMW is rewriting its narrative. The automaker has become the first of its kind to publicly disclose its sales figures, and the results are bolstering confidence. This marks a significant shift from the struggles faced by some of its German rivals like Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz.

Bmw's m division drives record sales, electric vehicle demand rises
The company is rebounding from a challenging period, signaling a successful transition away from previous technologies. The spotlight, once on the V10 engine, is now firmly on solid-state technology and, notably, the phenomenal performance of BMW's M division. In 2025, M models accounted for a remarkable 213,449 sales out of a total of 2,169,739 vehicles. This is the fourteenth consecutive year the division has achieved its best sales year to date, meaning one in ten BMWs sold last year carried the M badge.
This success isn't accidental. A broadened M range, including SUVs like the X3 M50, complemented traditional coupes and sedans, has broadened appeal. More accessible models like the M340i also contributed, but the M2 and M3 families were the clear top sellers. “We established the course for future success based on three pillars: our technology-neutral approach, broad global presence, and inspiring brands and products,” stated Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG. He added that the company is now reaping the rewards of its strategic positioning.
Beyond the M division, BMW is also witnessing a surge in electric vehicle demand. Sales of electric vehicles reached 442,056 units in 2025, a 3.6% increase from 2024, representing 17.9% of total sales. Hybrid plug-in vehicles, however, lagged behind with 200,015 units sold. Europe remains BMW's primary market, although the company faces headwinds in China. The rise of lower-cost Chinese EVs has significantly impacted Western automakers, and BMW experienced a 12.5% sales decline in China during 2025 as local brands consolidated their positions.
The BMW Serie 3 Neue Klasse is slated for launch on March 18th. Early details suggest a significant leap forward in electric vehicle technology and design.
The numbers paint a picture of a company successfully navigating a complex Automotive landscape. The shift towards electrification and the continued strength of the M division suggest a robust future – if BMW can effectively address the challenges in the Chinese market.
Key figures: 213,449 M model sales (2025), 442,056 EV sales (2025), €7.000 million net profit.
