Bmw m2 cs sets new nürburgring record, but doesn't get the glory

BMW's M2 CS has broken the Nürburgring lap record in its class, but the achievement belongs to a journalist rather than a BMW engineer.

Christian Gebhardt, a reporter from German publication Sport Auto, has outpaced BMW's own test driver Jörg Weidinger, who set the previous record last year with a time of 7:25.5 minutes.

Gebhardt crossed the finish line in 7:25.02 minutes, just three tenths of a second faster than Weidinger's mark. This is a remarkable feat, especially considering Gebhardt is a journalist rather than a professional driver.

However, due to the nature of the test – it was not an official manufacturer-backed attempt – Gebhardt's time does not count as an official record for the M2 CS.

BMW still holds the overall lap record at Nürburgring, with the M2 equipped with the M Performance Track Kit completing the circuit in 7:25.068 minutes.

There's still potential for the M2 CS to shave off more seconds, with the possibility of a future CSL model or an M2 xDrive variant.
