Ayrton Senna's Historic Honda NSX to be Auctioned by RM Sotheby’s

RM Sotheby’s will soon auction a Honda NSX once owned by the legendary Ayrton Senna. The car, estimated to be worth at least $580,000, represents a significant piece of automotive history.

Senna’s Influence on the NSX’s Development

Ayrton Senna’s relationship with Honda is deeply intertwined with the brand’s success. Before joining McLaren, Senna raced for Lotus, where Honda provided the V6 turbocharged engine. Later, as a consultant for McLaren, Senna played a crucial role in the development of the NSX, a New Sportscar Experimental designed to compete with Porsche and Ferrari. His recommendations led to a 50% increase in structural rigidity and improvements to the suspension for enhanced performance.

The car appeared in the documentary ‘Ayrton Senna: Racing Is In My Blood’ and has since passed through several owners, including a sighting at the Imola circuit in 2019 to commemorate Senna’s death.
