Audi rs 6 returns: v8 hybrid puts the m5 in the hot seat
Audi is poised
to unleash a brand-new RS 6 sedan, a direct challenge to the BMW M5, packing a potent V8 hybrid powertrain and a significantly boosted output.A berlinetta reborn
After the recent debut of the RS 5, whispers have intensified about the return of the iconic RS 6, a model last seen in 2009. CarScoops reports that a prototype of the three-volume sedan has been spotted testing at the Nürburgring, sporting a strikingly aggressive design – think oversized air intakes and a prominent splitter. Forget subtle; Audi is going for a statement.
The car is ditching the familiar five-cylinder engine of the EA855, a testament to Audi’s commitment to performance. Initial spy shots reveal a massive, dual exhaust system, immediately identifying it as an RS model. But the real intrigue lies beneath the surface: a new aerodynamically sculpted rear wing and a more aggressive front fascia.

Hybrid power unleashed
While details are scarce, rumors point towards a substantial hybrid system. Considering the recent RS 5’s impressive figures – a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 producing 510 horsepower combined with an electric motor for a total of 639 – the RS 6 is expected to surpass the M5’s 727 horsepower. A 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 is heavily speculated, likely pushing power well beyond 720 CV.
The interior, though currently unseen, is anticipated to be dominated by a fully digital cockpit, mirroring the advanced technology found in the standard A6. Expect a massive 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster, complemented by a 14.5-inch infotainment screen – potentially with an optional 10.9-inch display on the passenger side. Luxurious touches like Alcantara upholstery and carbon fiber trim are also expected.

Performance figures
With a Tiptronic eight-speed automatic gearbox, the previous RS 6 sedan could hit 0-62 mph in just 3.6 seconds. Leveraging a 25.9 kWh battery under the boot, it offered an electric range of 80 kilometers. The new RS 6 is likely to be even faster, potentially eclipsing those figures with a more powerful hybrid setup. It's likely to be a formidable rival to the M5's already impressive performance.
Audi’s ambition is clear: to reclaim its position as the benchmark in the high-performance executive sedan segment. And with this new RS 6, they're not just aiming to compete – they're determined to dominate.
